This has always puzzled me:
"Medium has been focusing on optimizing the time visitors spend reading the site"
Optimizing *my* time would mean that information would be presented concisely and clearly, leaving me free time for other stuff I care about.
But it’s an optimization for *them*, it means that they are looking for ways to make me spend hours on their website.
There is no win-win situation with this model.
